An open weave that cuts glare, heat and UV while you still see out. Openness runs from 1% to 10%. Lower numbers block more sun, and higher numbers keep more of the view.

Details worth deciding early
Cassettes, valances and fascia
The top of a roller shade can be finished several ways. Norman Soluna offers a curved or square cassette, a fabric-wrapped or wood valance, or a slim metal fascia. Several of the shades pictured on this page have a dark valance that frames the fabric and hides the roller.
Inside or outside mount
An inside mount sits within the window frame for a built-in look and needs enough depth for the roller. An outside mount covers the frame and trim, hides uneven openings and blocks more light at the edges. We check depth and squareness at the measure and recommend one for each window.
Top down bottom up honeycomb
A honeycomb shade can lower from the top as well as lift from the bottom. Drop the top a foot and daylight comes in over the shade while the lower window stays covered. It is the most useful option we know for bathrooms and street-facing rooms.

A clear price for each window, for exactly what you picked. Change it, trim it or take your time with it.
We install
Your order is built to our measurements and installed by our own team. We haul away the old blinds.
Drapery and layered windows
Shades pair well with drapery panels. A shade handles light and privacy, and side panels add softness and color. We make custom drapery and hardware to go with any shade we install.

What are cellular shades?
Cellular shades, also called honeycomb shades, are made of pleated fabric cells that trap air. That pocket of air insulates the window, which helps rooms stay cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
What is the difference between light filtering and room darkening shades?
Neither one can be seen through. Light filtering fabric lets daylight pass through and brighten the room while keeping it private. Room darkening fabric blocks most of the light as well, which suits bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms.
What is a top down bottom up shade?
It is a shade that lowers from the top as well as raising from the bottom. You can let daylight in over the top while the lower part of the window stays covered for privacy.
Which shades are best for blocking heat and glare?
Solar shades cut glare and UV while keeping your view. Cellular shades insulate best. For west-facing rooms, many homeowners pair a solar shade for daytime with a blackout shade or drapery for night.
What shades work on sliding glass doors?
Norman SmartDrape and vertical honeycomb shades both slide side to side like the door. They replace vertical blinds with something quieter and better looking.
Are cordless shades safer for children?
Yes. Cordless and motorized shades have no dangling cords, which removes the main hazard to young children and pets. Most of the shades we install are cordless by default.
