Norman Smart Motorization
Motorized shades and patio screens in Clemmons, NC
Raise every shade with one tap, wake up to daylight on a schedule, and enjoy the porch when the sun is low. We will show you how it all works in your own home.

Overview
Motorized shades and patio screens, made to fit
Motorized shades solve the windows you never adjust: the ones over the tub, behind the sofa or two stories up in the great room. A remote, an app or your voice moves them.
Outside, motorized screens drop from a cassette at the edge of a covered porch. They block low sun and bugs and retract out of sight when you want the open air.

Try it
Run the shade like the remote does
- Tap up, stop or down. The shade keeps moving until it reaches the limit or you stop it.
- Switch to PrecisionLift to compare it with moving the shade by hand.
- Tap Side by side to see light filtering next to room darkening.
- Tap the Honeycomb tab for a motorized top down bottom up shade with a remote for each rail.
What you can choose
Options to choose from
Battery motors
A rechargeable battery in the headrail. No wiring, and charging only a few times a year.
Hardwired motors
For new construction and remodels. Power runs in the wall, so shades never need charging.
Norman Smart Motorization
Run Norman shades from an app, by voice or on automated schedules.
Schedules and scenes
Lower west-facing shades at 3 p.m. Open the bedroom at sunrise. Close the whole house with one button.
Motorized patio screens
Exterior solar screens that ride in side tracks, built for wind, sun and insects.
Retractable awnings
Shade over a deck or patio that extends when you need it and tucks away when you do not.
Light control
Light filtering, room darkening or blackout
Tap through the fabrics. The right one depends on the room and the direction the window faces.
Glows and stays private
Light filtering
You cannot see through it, but daylight passes through the weave and brightens the whole room. It is the fabric most people choose for living rooms, kitchens and offices.
- Privacy day and night
- Softens glare on screens
- Wide range of colors and textures
Blocks most of the light
Room darkening
An opaque fabric that stops the view and most of the daylight. A thin line of light can still show around the edges of the shade.
- Bedrooms and nurseries
- Media rooms
- Street-facing windows
The darkest option
Blackout
Norman LightGuard 360 adds side channels and a sealed top and bottom to a room darkening roller shade, which closes the light gaps around the fabric.
- Light sleepers and shift workers
- Home theaters
- Nurseries
Keeps the view
Solar screen
An open weave that cuts glare, heat and UV while you still see out. Openness runs from 1% to 10%. Lower numbers block more sun, and higher numbers keep more of the view.
- Sunrooms and west-facing windows
- Rooms with a view worth keeping
- Less private at night with the lights on
How it moves
Five ways to move a shade
Every shade can be moved by hand or by a motor. You can mix them from room to room.
By hand, no cords
PrecisionLift
Norman PrecisionLift has no cord at all. Push or pull the hem bar and the shade stays exactly where you leave it. Try it in the window preview on this site.
- Nothing dangling at the window
- Smooth, even travel
- Our standard lift on roller shades
Lift from the bottom rail
Cordless
Honeycomb shades and blinds lift by hand from the bottom rail. There are no cords for children or pets to reach, and nothing to wrap around a cleat.
- Honeycomb shades and blinds
- Top down bottom up available
- Safer around children and pets
For windows that are awkward to reach
SmartRelease
A Norman lift system made for shades you cannot comfortably move by the hem bar. We bring a working sample to your visit so you can try it before deciding.
- A good fit for tall windows
- Try it in person first
- No motor to charge
A motor without a remote
AutoWand
Norman AutoWand puts the motor controls on a slim wand that hangs from the shade. Press a button and the shade moves, with no remote to lose and no app to set up.
- Simple motorization
- Nothing to pair
- Good for guest rooms and offices
Remote, app, voice and schedules
Smart Motorization
Norman Smart Motorization runs one shade or the whole house from a remote, the Norman app or a voice assistant. Schedules can lower west-facing shades in the afternoon and open the bedroom at sunrise.
- Rechargeable battery or hardwired
- Group rooms into scenes
- The answer for windows out of reach

- Keep mosquitoes out while the breeze comes through.
- Protect outdoor furniture and floors from fading.
- Retract fully so the view stays open when you want it.
Good to know
Details worth deciding early
Remote, wand, app or voice
There are four ways to run a motorized shade. A handheld remote moves one shade or a group. Norman AutoWand puts the buttons on a wand that hangs from the shade itself. The Norman app adds schedules and scenes, and a voice assistant handles it hands-free. Most homes use a remote every day and the schedules without thinking about them.
Which windows to motorize
You do not have to motorize the whole house. Start with the windows you cannot reach, the ones behind furniture or a tub, and any room where several shades move together. Everything else can stay on PrecisionLift and match the motorized shades exactly.
The process
How it works
Three visits at most, and usually two.
We come to you
We bring the samples, so you can hold fabrics and finishes up to your own walls, trim and furniture. We measure every window while we are there. The visit is free.
You get a written quote
A clear price for each window, for exactly what you picked. Change it, trim it or take your time with it.
We install
Your order is built to our measurements and installed by our own team. We haul away the old blinds.

Planning motorization in a new build
If your home is still under construction, tell us early. Running low-voltage wire to the windows before drywall costs very little and gives you hardwired shades with nothing to charge. We can mark locations from the plans and coordinate with your builder.
Answers
Motorized shade questions
How much do motorized shades cost?
Motorization adds to the price of each shade, and the amount depends on the motor type and the size of the window. We price it window by window, so you can motorize the hard-to-reach ones and leave the rest manual.
Are motorized shades worth it?
They are worth it for tall windows, windows behind furniture and rooms where you adjust the light every day. Schedules can also lower shades during the hottest part of the afternoon without anyone touching them.
How are motorized shades powered?
Most use a rechargeable battery hidden in the headrail, which needs charging a few times a year. In new construction or a remodel, shades can be hardwired so they never need charging.
Do motorized shades work with voice assistants?
Yes. Norman Smart Motorization supports app control, voice control and automated schedules, alongside the remote.
Can you motorize shades I already have?
Sometimes. It depends on the brand and the size of the headrail. We will look at what you have during the visit and tell you whether a retrofit or a new shade makes more sense.
How much do motorized patio shades cost?
Exterior screens are priced by width, height, fabric and how they are mounted to the porch. We measure the opening and give you a written quote on site.
